ABOUT THE CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY
DANCE
Home to six
professional contemporary dance companies, The
Center for Contemporary Dance is a non-recital, non-competition
school of dance that balances structure and creativity to
provide a sophisticated forum in which to explore and practice the
multi-disciplinary art of movement. The Center functions as a
place of higher learning based on the National Standards for Dance
Education, offering training in the dance arts,
including classes in technique, composition, performance and
artistic development.
The Center's classes, workshops
and programs
equip students with a broader definition of dance that
reaches into the art of
dance. Students of The Center are guided to the discovery
of their own unique artistic process, allowing them
to consciously use dance as a means of clearly expressing
concepts, ideas, perceptions and emotions to an audience. This
is how a dancer becomes an Artist. This is why a
dancer moves.

WHAT WE
OFFER

At The Center, we
teach more than just dance technique; we take students on a journey
where they discover their individual voice in the dance
arts. The
Center, also home to an , is a multi-dimensional
place where students can explore a variety of dance classes and
specialty programs that connect them to an artistic intention and
purpose. Whether taking
a class or workshop through The Center, students see themselves as
artists with something important to share. You may click HERE to view the Spring 2008 class

In addition to its a-la-carte selection of
dance classes, The Center also offers a more structured Pre-Professional Program where qualifying
students are placed into blocks of semester-based classes aimed at
preparing them for the stage, including shows by The Center's professional
ensembles. Dance classes at The Center include modern, ballet,
jazz, contemporary/lyrical, ballroom, Afro-Caribbean, and much
more. Additionally, The Center offers a series of
wellness classes where non-dancers and dancers alike can enjoy aerobic
