Under the artistic leadership of award-winning choreographer Dario J. Moore, Moore Dance Project is the area’s first and only African-American professional dance ensemble. Moore Dance Project produces socially-relevant, artistically-engaging contemporary dance works that celebrate and examine new perspectives in the African-American experience.
Founded in Washington, DC in 2001, the Project has been operating out of The Center for Contemporary Dance since 2006. Since arriving in Central Florida, Moore Dance Project has presented more than 30 new dance works, including those commissioned by Pepsi Co., the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity, Rollins College, the Onyx Awards, Black Enterprise Magazine and the Negro Spiritual Scholarship Foundation.
U-Turn Dance Company is the area’s first pre-professional contemporary dance ensemble, featuring talented dancers ages 9 to adult who are preparing for a career in the Dance Arts. Dancers participate in a rigorous and comprehensive Pre-Professional Program at The Center for Contemporary Dance. Under the artistic direction of Dario J. Moore, U-Turn Dance Company made its Central Florida debut in 2001 and performs regularly both in mainstage productions as well as in specialty arts-education programs throughout Central Florida and nationally.
Founded in 2006 by Artistic Director and choreographer Smruti Patel, Patelworks Dance Theater produces work that is primarily a fusion of classical Indian dance and post-modern/contemporary dance. In residency at The Center for Contemporary Dance since 2007, Patelworks Dance Theater maintains a two-fold mission: (1) to take contemporary Indian dance to underrepresented populations that would otherwise not have access to such experiences and (2) to raise funds for charitable organizations.
In residency at The Center for Contemporary Dance, Tajma is an emerging contemporary dance company founded in 2010 by Artistic Director Emmaneulla Dorcely. The company’s primary focus is to use contemporary dance to share stories of love, life, loss and the intricacies of the human connection. The voice of Tajma is spoken through strong, passionate, organic movement that is, at once, strong and lyrical.
Mary Love Dance Projects is a contemporary dance company merging classicism and contemporary perspectives. In the upcoming season, the company presents innovative choreography, multimedia explorations and nationally recognized repertory. For more information visit www.marylovedanceprojects.com.
Founded by Artistic Director Nikki Peña, Coby Project is the newest resident dance company at The Center for Contemporary Dance. Grounded in improvisation, the company debuts new work from the organization’s 2013 Choreographers’ Showcase.
