What
We Do
Home
to six professional contemporary dance companies and a center for dance education, The
Center is a leader in the evolution of contemporary dance in Central
Florida and a catalyst for creative efforts in social justice. For the past 7 years, The
Center has been initiating social change and inspiring community
consciousness through meaningful productions, innovative programs
and outreach endeavors that:
●
Inspire
community consciousness about social equality and the value
of diversity
●
Support
women and minority artists in their efforts to create and showcase
new work
●
Provide
arts education to underserved youth and public school
children
●
Meet
the expressive and creative needs of marginalized
populations
● Entertain
and inspire the community-at-large with contemporary
perspectives in dance
The
Center for Contemporary Dance is
working to lift barriers that prevent unique populations from
experiencing the arts and actively seeks to reach more inclusive
audiences. Recently
featured on PBS (click HERE and fast forward to minute
19:10), The Center's programs
have been enjoyed by
children’s organizations, homeless shelters, our
public schools, the disabled, the underprivileged and many more.
And on stage, The Center’s six professional contemporary dance
companies continue to
exhilarate audiences with their power, grace and honest
expression of emotion.
The Center for Contemporary Dance currently develops and
produces work for its founding companies, U-Turn Dance Company and UTD2, and provides a home
to these resident artists:
Patelworks Dance Theater, DRIP,
Emotions Dance
Company and Nao
Dance. Through
powerful and diverse choreographic works of art, The Center's
companies explore the complexities of the human experience,
compelling audiences of all ages to think, feel, reflect…and
change.
And
as a dance education
center, The Center's non-recital,
non-competition school of dance is designed to transform dancers
into mindful, socially-aware Artists who inspire audiences with
their technical skill and expressivity. Blending
creativity and structure, The Center's school of
dance functions a place of higher learning based on the
National Standards for Dance Education, training dancers
to become confident Artists who see their bodies as powerful
instruments for purposeful storytelling.
