Audition Description

Pre-Professional Program (Fall 2018):  The Pre-Professional Program prepares intermediate/advanced students ages 10-17 for a successful career in the Dance Arts.  Acceptance to the Program is by audition. Students may enter the program in August and January.  Resumés and headshots are required for all auditions.   In-person auditions for dancers include both an intermediate/advanced classical ballet and modern dance component; the presentation of one ballet or contemporary solo work (3-minutes or less) is also required. To request an audition outside of regularly-scheduled audition dates, please call (407) 695-8366 or email info@thecenterfordance.org.  Digital auditions for dancers consist of submitting DVD work samples that demonstrate the candidate’s skills in classical ballet and modern dance.  Click here to download the Digital Audition Form for complete instructions on applying digitally. All audition candidates will be notified of placement via email within three weeks of the audition.

Audition Attire:  Ladies – Black leotard, pink convertible tights, pink ballet slippers; hair must be worn in a tight bun or braids; Gentlemen – White leotard/t-shirt, black tights or bike shorts, black ballet slippers.

Audition Fee:  $25, due upon arrival at the audition.

Competitive Dance Team (Fall 2018):  The Competitive Dance Team is open to dancers of all levels ages 9-17 and maintains a focus on the core values of teamwork, technical excellence and artistic development. Acceptance to the Team is by audition.  Team efforts are concentrated on participation in local events and leveraged as educational opportunities to foster skills in learning/executing choreography, performing like a professional and working as a team. Each season, the Team typically competes at three to five local/regional competitions and one national competition; two or more optional competitions are also available. In addition, the Team represents the School’s exceptional standards by performing at numerous community, corporate and private events throughout the year, including the presentation of featured works in the School’s winter and spring concerts. In-person auditions for dancers include both a classical ballet and jazz dance component. Requirements

Pre-Professional Program:  In order to gain entry into the Pre-Professional Dance Program, students must have a minimum of 3 years of consistent training in Classical Ballet and Modern dance.  To maintain good standing in the Program, students must adhere to all Program requirements, including consistent attendance, demonstrable technical/artistic growth and at least a ‘B’ average in their academic studies. Pre-Professionals receive evaluations twice each semester to determine success in each of these areas.

Competitive Team:  The Competitive Dance Team is open to students of all levels, ages 9-17.  Students accepted to the Team are required to attend no less than 8 weekly hours of recommended classes, plus weekly rehearsals at The Center for Contemporary Dance.  Students are placed into dance routines based upon their current level of experience and performance quality.  To maintain good standing on the Team, students must adhere to all Team requirements, including consistent attendance, demonstrable technical/artistic growth and at least a ‘B’ average in their academic studies.
