Overview

This 3-hour Master Class is led by Master Instructor and world-renowned director/choreographer, Mr. Obediah Wright. Mr. Wright will present a fusion of classical ballet technique and grounded, rhythmic movement that has become a signature style known as Urban Ballet. This fast-paced class includes a choreography component, wherein students will learn an extended combination to assist with the application of this unique movement style.

Mr. Wright has over 20 years of professional experience and has worked with some of the best in the business, including Ray Charles, Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Janet Jackson and many more. Be prepared to fall in love with Urban Ballet!

Skill Level

This Master Class is appropriate for mature dancers ages 12 and up with 3+ continuous years of ballet/modern training. Advanced students under the age of 12 will be admitted by invitation only.
The talkback is open to the general public.

Master Instructor
Mr. Obediah Wright

Mr. Wright is the Founder and Director of Balance Dance Theatre in Brooklyn, NY. has over 20 years of professional experience and has worked with some of the best in the business such as: Ray Charles, Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin, M’bogeni Ngema (writer & director) of the Broadway Musical “Sarafina”, Suzan Birkenhead (lyricist for Broadway’s “Jelly’s Last Jam”), Diana Ross, Janet Jackson and Erykah Badu.

The New York native received his training from Bernice Johnson, The Ailey School, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Lee Aka Thompson, and The Juilliard School. Mr Wright has appeared in the Walt Disney documentary “Head of the Class/The Lion King.” He has choreographed and taught master classes internationally at some of the most prestigious schools, including those located in Japan, Hong Kong, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the Bahamas.
