websitepreproThe Pre-Professional Program at The Center for Contemporary Dance prepares dedicated and passionate dancers ages 12-18 for a career in the Dance Arts. Pre-professionals participate in a rigorous training program and performance ensembles to learn necessary skills that prepare them for entry into a university dance program and/or professional dance company, including those operating out of The Center for Contemporary Dance. Classes are designed to train the Pre-Professional in areas of technique, artistic development, production, wellness/nutrition and arts management.

Additionally, Pre-Professionals attend specialty workshops, where industry professionals offer guidance in audition preparation, business management and career longevity. Graduates of the program have entered some of the most prestigious dance programs across the nation, including those at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, the Juilliard School, Point Park University, New York University and many more.

Requirements and Curriculum

DSC_4270In accordance with The National Standards for Dance Education, The Center for Contemporary Dance prepares the next generation of dance artists through one of the most creative, comprehensive and intelligent programs in dance education.

Pre-Professional students must register as a Fully-Enrolled Student, attending a minimum of 11 hours of required classes per week; an additional 2 to 6 weekly rehearsal hours are required for students accepted into Company or Competitive Ensemble and may include weekend and evening hours. Rehearsal schedules will be provided in advance. Students must commit to a season (12 months, June 2014-May 2015) of dance studies at CCD.

In order to maintain good standing in the Program, students must adhere to all Program requirements, including consistent attendance, demonstrable technical/artistic growth and at least a ‘B’ average in their academic studies (K-12 students). Pre-Professionals receive evaluations twice each semester to determine success in each of these arenas.

Pre-Professional Students receive the following benefits:

1. Priority placement in classes with a guaranteed space in class selections.

2. Discounts on student concert fees that include costuming, 2 tickets and 1 DVD.

3. Exclusive offers and discounts on seasonal programs and specialty classes.

4. Priority notification and enrollment in new class offerings.

Students gain entry into the Pre-Professional Program by audition or invitation from the Artistic Director. Students may be invited into the Program without an audition only after demonstrating their abilities and dedication through the completion of a specialty program, such as CCD’s Summer Intensives or Master Classes. Students may audition to enter the program in July/August and December/January.

Auditions are by appointment; please contact us at (407) 695-8366 or info@thecenterfordance.org to schedule your audition.

  • All candidates must exhibit the ability to clearly articulate their goals and reasons for applying to the Program.
  • Dancers should wear form-fitting, black dance attire and come prepared to learn a short piece of choreography (modern or ballet); students need not prepare anything in advance.
  • Students are accepted into the Program based on a demonstration of passion, confidence and potential for technical/artistic development.
